Back Story
Multinational tyre maker Pirelli were asked for their thoughts on their Lean Manufacturing (LMO) Level 2 Apprenticeship programme, in partnership with Cidori and being delivered across a number of their plants (Carlisle team below; Burton on Trent right) by Cidori college partner Barnet and Southgate College.
This programme is showcasing innovation & driving organisational change.
“Lean principles lead to elimination of waste & optimisation of processes. Upskilling has streamlined operations, reduced downtime & improved overall efficiencies. Techniques learned help us identify & get rid of needless expenditure, so reductions in inventory, shorter lead times and lower production costs all flow from this. Upskilling equips our team to spot & fix defects early in the process – leading to higher quality outputs & happier customers.”

“Developing our team demonstrates our commitment to their success. As they acquire new skills & knowledge they are more engaged & motivated to contribute to our success.”
“I applied for the Lean Manufacturing programme to excel in knowledge of the business and implement skills I’ve learned from the course across different areas of the factory. I’ve enjoyed communicating with other colleagues and learning about their standard working procedures and the struggles they face day to day. This programme has given me the confidence to apply for a Deputy Frontline Leader role within my department in which I would look to further help the company reduce waste and increase efficiency.”
