We’re delighted to be working with Intersurgical – leading global designer & manufacturer of high quality medical devices, in the design and delivery by our college partners Barnet and Southgate College of a Lean Manufacturing Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship programme. Our congratulations to the team seen here proudly displaying their apprenticeship certificates!

Embracing the hallmark ‘project led’ approach that our partnership always takes to apprenticeships, Intersurgical decided to address key areas where the programme could bring improvements to their breathing system assembly line:

  • Optimise scheduling to reduce excessive downtime
  • Engineer solutions for ‘problem’ machine stations
  • Scheduling production aligned to available shift personnel
  • Improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) to at least 80%

We are pleased to report some outstanding outcomes for Intersurgical:

  • OEE increased to 87.5%
  • Practical strategies for enhancing productivity embedded
  • Significant reductions in hours lost to: Human error; Machinery faults; Changeover

We asked Phil Glover to comment on the programme so far:

“It is highly encouraging to see that the main objectives of the programme have been successfully achieved and embraced by the entire team. This accomplishment highlights the team’s dedication to continuous improvement and their ability to apply lean methodologies in a practical setting. We are excited to see how their newly developed skills continue to drive positive outcomes across the organisation.
